vogue Black

Take, for example, our Vogue Black tiles.  These gorgeous tiles make a bold statement when installed indoors or out. These tiles come in 3 different finishes – Polished, Smooth and Textured.

The polished tiles have a grip factor of 1, meaning that they are unsuitable to be used outside, in a kitchen or in a bathroom. However they would make for a stunning addition to any contemporary living room, breakfast room or hallway.

The smooth tiles are specifically designed to be slip resistant, and with a grip factor of 3, these tiles significantly reduce the risk of slips and falls in areas where the floors may get wet, for instance, Kitchens and bathrooms.  Because of the mid-range grip factor of these tiles, we strongly advise that they are only used indoors.

It is important to note that the different finishes all have significant differences in their appearance. We know that having a stunning, smooth bathroom floor is appealing, but please chose your finishes wisely, and ensure that you have the slip resistant flooring in areas of your home where the risk of slipping is significant.  Although, we believe it is truly impossible to eliminate the risk of slipping. By choosing our slip resistant porcelain tiles you are significantly reducing the risk of slips and falls.

Porcelain flooring is ideal for kitchens due to it's stain and slip-resistant qualities, making it safe for the preparation of meals, no matter how messy things get! However, it doesn't have to take on the traditional image of stone flooring, and can be produced in a number of shades and finishes. Thanks to the rise and rise of Scandinavian inspired decor in recent years, the monochrome trend has yet to decrease in popularity. Although black/dark grey flooring may seem quite daunting and severe at first, it really can provide a perfect platform to create your monochrome home, working from the ground up. When paired with the right decor, it can create an absolutely stunning contrast, creating a dynamic and modern design without making your house look dark and dreary.

To give you a few ideas of how to make dark flooring work for you, we've highlighted some inspiration below from our own range, and other homeware stores we love!

All White Everything

The obvious choice for brightening up a room with dark flooring is to fill it with bright walls and tons of white homeware pieces, in order to create a striking contrast. There's plenty of modern, white furniture on the market at the moment, in sleek shapes and unusual designs, so you should have no trouble finding the perfect pieces to fit your space.

Grey Tones

If you're worried that stark black and white could be too bold for you, that doesn't mean that you can't  find ways to tone down the look to make it work for you. By combining a black and white base with lots of grey tones in your furnishings and accessories, you can easily soften the look by bringing in more tones. This way you can stick to the colour palette without making it too restrictive or uniform (unless uniformity is what you're after).

One of the major advantages that comes with investing in Prima's tiled flooring, is that our material is virtually maintenance-free, thanks to its unique design and texture. The main contributing factor to the build-up of dirt and staining is a high porosity level, which means that the material is more absorbent and therefore more prone to picking up marks. Our tiles have a porosity level of only 0.05%, which means that they do not allow moisture to enter the material. This innovative quality removes the need for the application of a sealant, as well as the need for regular, thorough cleaning, alleviating all of the drawbacks associated with natural stone.

Thanks to their anti-stain, low maintenance quality, the only upkeep you should have to perform on outdoor tiles is a clean with warm, soapy water once a year. This is simply to remove any organic debris, such as soil grass and leaves etc.  For those using their tiles indoors, a weekly mop is recommended to keep your tiles gleaming and pristine.

Although your flooring should largely stay crystal clear and stain-free, we understand that life can sometimes be a messy business. For this reason, we have put together a handy guide which highlights the best detergents and cleaners for particular stains, ranging from oils and rust to paints and pen marks.
